Technical Groups

Cathodic Protection

THE AIMS OF THE CATHODIC PROTECTION TECHNICAL GROUP ARE AS FOLLOWS:-

  • To promote the exchange and dissemination of technical information on cathodic protection and related technology.
  • To organise official symposia for discussion and contact between persons within the industry, including non-members of the ACA.
  • To encourage persons in the wider industry to participate in ACA membership and activities.
  • To actively participate in the ACA's involvement with other industry organisations including, but not limited to the various Australasian Electrolysis Committees and government regulatory bodies, Standards Australia, Standards New Zealand, other relevant technical associations and educational institutions
  • To participate in or organise other activities in the area of cathodic protection industries, which the membership deems appropriate.

Coatings

The aims of the Coatings Technical Group are as follows:-

  • To facilitate the exchange and dissemination of technical information on coatings technology and its use to protect assets. 
  • To organise official symposia for discussion and contact between persons within the industry, including non-members of the ACA.
  • To participate in the development and maintenance of Australian and New Zealand Standards and the development of ACA technical notes, guides and standards as is relevant to the purpose of the TG.
  • To encourage those in the wider coatings industry to participate in ACA membership and activities by promoting the overall benefits of doing so.
  • To actively participate in the ACA's involvement with other coatings industry organisations including, but not limited to, APIA, APAS, NACE, PCCP, SCAA, SCANZ, SSPC and educational institutions.
  • To organise or participate in other industry activities which the membership deems appropriate.

Concrete Structures & Buildings

The aims of the Concrete Structures & Buildings Technical Group are as follows:-

  • To promote the exchange and dissemination of technical information on the durability of concrete structures and buildings (both existing and new structures and buildings).
  • To organise official symposia and fora for discussion and contact between persons within these industries, including non-members of the ACA. 
  • To encourage persons in the wider construction industry to participate in ACA membership and activities. 
  • To actively participate in the ACA's involvement with other industry and professional organisations, including but not limited to, Australian and New Zealand concrete associations, concrete repair associations, Standards bodies, Government Authorities and educational institutions. 
  • To participate in or organise other activities in the area of durability of concrete structures and buildings that the membership deems appropriate.

Mining Industry

The aims of the Mining Industry Technical Group are as follows:-

  • To promote the exchange and dissemination of technical information on combating corrosion in the mining industry.
  • To organise official symposia for discussion and contact between persons within the industry, including non-members of the ACA.
  • To encourage persons in the wider mining industry to participate in ACA membership and activities.
  • To actively participate in the ACA's involvement with other industry organisations including, but not limited to, Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy, Australian Concrete Repair Association, Australian Pipeline Industry Association, Chamber of Minerals & Energy, CSIRO, Standards Australia, Standards New Zealand and educational institutions.
  • To participate in or organise other activities in the area of the mining industry which the membership deems appropriate.

Oil & Gas

The aims of the oil & Gas Technical Group are as follows:

  • To promote the exchange and dissemination of technical information on corrosion and its control in the oil, gas, refining and chemical processing industries
  • To organise official symposia and forums for discussion and contact between persons within the industries, including non-members of the ACA
  • To encourage persons in the wider process and refining industries to participate in ACA membership and activities
  • To actively participate in the ACA's involvement with other industry and professional organisations, including but not limited to, Standards bodies, Government authorities and educational institutions
  • To participate in or organise other activities in the area of petroleum and chemical processing industries which the committee deems appropriate

    Research

    The aims of the Research Technical Group are as follows:-

    • To monitor national and international research activities into corrosion and its control, disseminating the latest information to the wider ACA membership.
    • To liaise with student members of the Young Corrosion Group (YCG), providing mentoring role where required.
    • To organise a conference session to showcase corrosion engineering students’ work and a forum to present case studies for those in industry who wish to participate.
    • To organise and run a forum as the other TGs, where a free exchange of ideas around current research activities can occur.
    • In conjunction with Branches, to organise a midyear networking opportunity for YCG, students, industry professionals, research facilities and places of education. 
    • To encourage members to submit research articles to Corrosion & Materials and into the annual conference proceedings.
    • To encourage persons in tertiary institutions and research facilities to participate in the wider membership activities.

    Water & Water Treatment

    The aims of the Water & Water Treatment Technical Group are as follows:-

    • To promote the exchange and dissemination of technical information on combating corrosion in the water industry
    • To organise official symposia for discussion and contact between persons within the industry, including non-members of the ACA.
    • To encourage persons in the wider water industry to participate in ACA membership and activities.
    • To actively participate in the ACA's involvement with other industry organisations, including Water Services Association of Australia, Standards Australia, Water New Zealand, Standards New Zealand, Australian Stainless Steel Development Association, New Zealand Stainless Steel Development Association Australian Water Association and educational institutions.
    • To participate in or organise other activities in the area of water and waste water treatment which the membership deems appropriate.

    AIMS OF THE TECHNICAL GROUPS

    • Assist in organising technical information exchanges such as a conference or technical forum/seminar
    • Assist with the open review of draft Standards and other technical reports/papers
    • Reaffirmation of existing standards and reports
    • Encourage writing and submission of technical papers and case studies for the ACA Conference and Corrosion & Materials
