After University, apart from 2yrs as a Civil Engineer in London, I worked on the design and construction of power stations for ten years until I was appointed as the NZ Ministry of Works Materials Engineer in Civil Division Head Office in Wellington in 1984. Apart from 2 years secondment as a Corrosion Engineer to Shell Todd Oil Services in New Plymouth, I worked as materials engineer until retirement from full time work in 2016 and have been retained since then as a part-time consultant. Project experience included bridging, wharves, hydro and thermal power stations, power transmission and telecommunication structures, and commercial buildings with overseas work assignments in Japan, Thailand, Laos, Samoa, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania.
