The ACA’s Certification Program for ACA Technologist recognises those with education, experience, and professional development within the corrosion industry. Using a points-based system considering attendance at formal training courses, hands-on experience, and ongoing professional development, ACA Technologists must have at least four years’ experience in the industry for accreditation.

Work experience in corrosion or corrosion-related fields is defined as practical experience in corrosion mechanisms, causes, control, and monitoring. The work must be technical in nature, and in the corrosion field. Work experience should assume technical control and responsibility. Work such as design, specification, and failure analysis are considered responsible work in charge, whilst routine testing and application in corrosion control such as the painting or installation of anodes are not.

• Satisfy criteria in Australian Standards such as AS2832.5.

Requirements to become an ACA Corrosion Technologist:

• Ongoing ACA Membership as an individual Member or as a delegate of an ACA Corporate Member.
• Applicants must have completed a recognised basic corrosion course. The ACA provides an in-house version of this called the Corrosion Technology Course. This course provides no points toward accreditation and is considered a basic minimum.
• At least ten years working in a direct capacity with corrosion and its handling or mitigation, including in academic settings. This must include a minimum of five years in responsible charge.
• Completion of a course in line with the accompanying table to a minimum of ten points.
• A signed ACA affirmation which details the values and standards expected of accredited corrosion technologists by the ACA.
