The ACA Awards are given at the annual Corrosion & Prevention conference. They are awarded based a variety of criteria, including paper submissions, service to Branches, and industry contribution. Criteria, means of submission, and further detail is clarified on each Award’s individual page.
Currently, the Awards are as follows:
The Corrosion Medal is the Association’s most prestigious award. It is bestowed for outstanding scientific or technological work in the field of corrosion in Australasia or meritorious contributions towards the handling and mitigation of corrosion industry in Australasia.
The YCG Award is awarded is given to a notable member under the age of 35 who has made a significant contribution to the ACA through their efforts in corrosion. A significant contribution will be described within the submission form for the Awards that will be reviewed by the deciding body.
The Life Membership is given to an ACA Member for their outstanding continuous service to the ACA over an extended period. This includes contributions to a Branch or Branches, the ACA Council, or to a group such as a Technical Group or a governing Committee.
The David Whitby Best Review is awarded annually to the best reviewed paper reviewed for the annual Corrosion & Prevention Conference.
The Marshall Fordham Research Paper Award is awarded annually to the best research paper reviewed for the annual Corrosion & Prevention Conference.
The Arthur C Kennett Award is awarded annually to the best paper that deals specifically with the corrosion or degradation of non-metal materials such as polymers, polymeric coatings, composites, and concrete.
Formerly titled ‘the Best Case Study Award’, the Les Boulton Case Study Award is awarded annually to the best case studies submitted to the annual Corrosion & Prevention Conference.
The Brian Cherry Awards Forum is awarded annually to final year undergraduate and postgraduate students who are studying any aspect of corrosion, inclusive but not limited to, metallic and non-metallic corrosion, corrosion management, corrosion handling and mitigation, and corrosion protection efforts.
The Victor Nightingall Award is awarded annually to those who have demonstrated distinguished achievement in the development, manufacturing, or application of protective coatings or advancement of the protective coatings industry.
The Golden Trowel Award is awarded annually to a contractor who has demonstrated a meritorious or innovative performance in the field of concrete remediation and protection.
The Rust Award is awarded annually to a protective coatings contractor who has demonstrated a meritorious or innovative performance in the field of concrete remediation and protection.
The Aude Sapere Award is awarded annually to an ACA’s Member’s organisation ongoing commitment to the training and professional development of the staff through holding ACA-delivered training courses each calendar year.
It should be noted that not all awards are given out on a yearly basis as they are submitted and approval by based on meritorious basis.
The Committees and bodies that determine the outcomes of the Awards shall decide if an Award is not to be given on a particular year due a lack of appropriate candidates.
