Haast River Bridge Targeted Refurbishment – From Inspection to Implementation
At 737m long, Haast River bridge is New Zealand’s longest single lane Callender Hamilton bridge, located in Haast on the west Coast of the South Island within a hostile marine environment. With over half the bridge steelwork protected by the original 1960’s hot dip galvanizing, WSP was commissioned by Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency to develop a cost effective coatings management plan, while minimising traffic disruptions and mitigating contamination risks to the surrounding pristine environment
This presentation starts with Raed El Sarraf from WSP, outlining the inspections, undertaken over a 5 year period, that formed the basis of the selected targeted maintenance strategy, and the developed maintenance plan. Followed by the challenges with working in a remote site during one of the wettest periods of recent weather records, with insights from Craig Ross of Napier Sandblasting, and concludes with lessons learnt from an independent coatings inspector’s view by Rene Hill of Southern QA.
ACA NZ Canterbury Division is looking forward to sharing this exciting technical presentation with our members, on Thursday 29 September, at the Nor’Wester Room at the Hornby Workingman’s Club. Drinks and nibbles start from 5.30pm, with the presentation starting from 6pm by the 3 presenters, to conclude by 7pm.
Please RSVP by September 19 to Raed.ElSarraf@wsp.com.
