The AMPP Coating Inspector Program – Level 2 (CIP2) course focuses on advanced inspection techniques and specialised application for both steel and non-steel
substrates, including specialised coatings and linings. This is the world’s most recognised and specified coating inspection certification program.

Coatings Inspectors seeking Certified Coatings Inspector knowledge or certification who will be responsible for performing and documenting destructive/non-destructive inspections under the supervision of a Senior Certified Coatings Inspector.

How to achieve the Certified Coatings Inspector/CIP Level 2 certification:

2 years verifiable coatings related work experience. Note: Please review the Accepted Work Experience Requirements

Successful completion of CIP Level 2 Course

Successful completion of the Ethics for the Corrosion Professional course or an equivalent training

Active Basic Coatings Inspector Certification

Approved Certified Coatings Inspector Application

  • Note: Certification candidates must apply for this certification by submitting an on-line application which is subject to approval.

 

Certification Exam – Certified Coatings Inspector Practical exam administered in the classroom.

Certification Exam – CIP Level 2 Exam NACE-CIP2-001 scheduled through Pearson VUE.

  • Note: This exam is available on Computer Based Testing (CBT) at Pearson Virtual University Experience (VUE)

Certification candidates have four (4) years to complete all requirements, including successful completion of the exam, and an approved application with the required work experience and education requirements.

Renewal requirements

An approved recertification application is required every 3 years. The work experience requirement for renewals for all certifications is one and half (1.5) years for the most recent three (3) year period. Additionally, some certifications have other requirements related to responsibility in charge.

As you prepare for renewal, please visit My Certification Portal to log and manage your work experience and Professional Development Hours (PDH’s) needed. Your work experience and PDH’s will be submitted as part of your renewal application but you can input PDH’s at any time. Certification holders are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee for renewal.
