Presentation: Rust Never Sleeps: Strategies for Subsea Corrosion Control with Flow Assurance
Abstract: This presentation covers a high-level introduction of the critical aspects of subsea corrosion and how flow assurance can assist integrity management in the offshore oil and gas industry. We begin by exploring the fundamental mechanisms of subsea corrosion, focusing on both external and internal challenges. External corrosion topics include cathodic protection systems, protective coatings, and the unique considerations for structures, pipelines, and flexible risers. We’ll discuss inspection techniques and CP-testing methodologies essential for maintaining asset integrity.
The internal corrosion section covers various mitigation strategies, including corrosion inhibitors, internal coatings, and the complexities of top-of-line and bottom-of-line corrosion. Special attention is given to microbiologically influenced corrosion, under-deposit corrosion, and the importance of defect assessments. We’ll explore the use of corrosion-resistant alloys, inline inspection techniques, and dehydration processes in managing internal corrosion risks.
The presentation concludes with three informative case studies: estimating top-of-line condensation, flow assurance modelling for cleaning pigs and dewatering operations in preparation for in-line inspections, and sand transport analysis. These practical examples will demonstrate the application of corrosion management and flow assurance principles in real-world scenarios, providing valuable insights for industry professionals.
