Rusted On!

Dear Colleagues,

Wise men say that the collective attitude within a family can represent the attitude of a nation. The ACA is one family that excels at its positive and rewarding attitude towards its members and hence why I feel proud of being part of the Association.

It is a privilege to accept your nomination as 2021 National President for our Association. Particularly as my accumulated 12 continuous years of various branch office bearing experiences, annual Corrosion & Prevention conference presentations, national council responsibilities, and wisdom absorbed from such a collegial membership, have matured to a point where I am humbled by your trust.

By way of background, I was raised and received primary school education in Syracuse (USA) in the early 80’s, subsequently Senior School and Undergraduate (Civil Engineering) education in Vicosa (Brazil), as well as a Master of Science degree in structural materials engineering from EESC University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). Interest in science, particularly applied technological and scientific research, has always been one of my passions. I am currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle – Australia, where I have been awarded a PhD for studies in corrosion analysis and prediction.

I have chosen to share the above photo with you, taken during my ACA Brian Cherry International Scholarship travels, as it represents my sincere appreciation towards the core values of our Association. As Council Chair, my role is to collate your valued invested guidance, ideas, and ambitions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your colleagues and local Branches. It is a fact that the Association invests in its members, fostering potential domestic and international collaborations, bridges gaps between Academia and Industry, and builds solid grounds from which we can collectively receive the returns and prosper for many years to come.

I look very much forward in hearing from you.
