Last year the ACA Awards Committee with Board approval decided to have an Award each year for the best case study published in the Annual Conference proceedings or in Corrosion & Materials.
This decision was made based on the fact that many of the papers presented at the Conference were in fact case studies. Also, the existing awards i.e. the Marshal Fordham (Research) and the David Whitby (Review) Awards do not cover case studies.
The Awards Committee has decided to canvas opinions from ACA members, for a name for the Case Study Award.
It is appropriate that such an Award be associated with the name of an ACA member who has made an outstanding contribution to the association over the years, and in particular has been associated with solving practical industrial problems dealing with corrosion prevention and control.
The Committee will also recommend to the Board that the Marshall Fordham Award be renamed the Brian Cherry Award. Brian, who passed away earlier this year was very much at the forefront of corrosion research in Australia for over some 50 years. It is therefore most appropriate that our research award be named in honor of Brian.
Marshall Fordham who was very active in civil aviation has a memorial plaque at Mangalore airport so his name will not be forgotten.
