Event Summary

This will be a Branch General Meeting followed by a technical presentation delivered by Gerard White, Quality & Technical Manager at Steel Mains.

Presentation Title: Half a Century of SINTAKOTE® Corrosion Protection

The Australasian Corrosion Association Victoria Branch invites members and interested attendees to join the Branch General Meeting. We are inviting nominations for President, Vice President, Secretary, and General Committee Members. Joining the committee presents an excellent opportunity to broaden your perspective within a group of highly experienced corrosion specialists and others working in the corrosion industry.

To submit your nomination, please download the nomination form (available in the CONTENT tab of this event page) and submit it via the link by close of business Tuesday 17th March 2026. Nominations must be endorsed by a current ACA member.

Existing ACA members who cannot attend are asked to please complete and submit a BGM proxy form (also available in the CONTENT tab of this event page).

Important Note: General Committee members serve a 1-year term. If you are currently serving and wish to continue your involvement, you must re-nominate using the same process outlined above. This ensures all members have an equal opportunity to contribute. The President, Vice President, and Secretary roles are 2-year terms and are subject to rollover, meaning these positions are not up for re-nomination this year unless a vacancy arises.

This event is also being featured for one of our branch partners, Steel Mains. Steel Mains is Australia’s leading manufacturer and supplier of steel pipeline systems for water and wastewater transportation, supporting the industry for over 125 years. Their SINTAKOTE® steel pipeline system delivers long-term pipeline solutions designed for durability and performance.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Presentation Title: Half a Century of Sintakote Corrosion Protection

Abstract: Since its inception in 1972 Sintakote fusion bonded polyethylene has been a world leading coating and lining system for steel water pipelines. During the time not only has the further development of Sintakote maintained this status, but Steel Mains has also been returning to sites to assess our Sintakote in use both above and below ground. This year Steel Mains was able to assess an installation at Barwon Water in Geelong that has been in service for 48 years. This follows on from assessments after 26, 35 and 40 years’ service at the same site. The presentation is a summary of the results of this testing.

Presentation Title: Beware first impressions: Some surprises in corrosion failures

Abstract: Corrosion or coating failures will often have an obvious cause. But sometimes a little digging shows there is more to the problem than first appears. We look at some examples of failures that are caused by a different series of events that was first imagined.
