A draft standard “DRAS 1627.6:2024 Metal finishing – Preparation and pretreatment of surfaces, Part6: Phosphate and chromate conversion treatment of metals” is open for commenting on the Standards Australia public comments system. This update of the 2003 version contains mainly editorial alterations. Most changes in this field encompass proprietary chromate-free pre-treatments, such as those based on zirconium and silanes, so there have not been major technical developments in the conventional coatings covered by this standard. They are, however, still widely used in the powder coating and similar industries.

Another draft standard “DR AS 3715:2024 Metal finishing – Thermoset powder coatings for architectural applications of aluminium and aluminium alloys” is open for commenting on the Standards Australia public comments system. This update of the 2002 version is a thorough technical and editorial revision of the Standard for the selection and testing of architectural powder coatings for aluminium. Alternative pretreatments are now considered, and there are now three durability classifications following AAMA and Qualicoat schemes, along with many other changes.
