CIP1 Frequently Asked Questions
Who is entitled to member registration rates for CIP1 training courses?
If you are an ACA member or an AMPP member, you may register for any AMPP training course at the member rate. If you are not a member, you may either register at the non-member rate or sign up to become a member – you can sign up to become an ACA member here.
What do I need to bring to a CIP1 course?
On the Friday you will need to wear steal cap work boots and workshop attire (covered arms and legs) as you will be in a working blast and paint facility for the practical day.
If you have your own safety gear and would like to use that instead of provided you’re welcome to bring it.
If you wear prescription glasses normally and have safety prescription glasses we recommend you bring them.
A good attitude and willingness to learn is very important. This is an intensive course with a lot covered in a short time.
What are the requirements for achieving Basic Coatings Inspector certification?
Successful completion of Coating Inspector Program level 1 course, practical exam and Theory CBT exams.
Successful completion of the Ethics for the Corrosion Professional course or an equivalent training course.
What happens if I do not pass my CIP1 practical exam?
If you are unsuccessful in your practical exam, you will need to resit the full course to gain your accreditation. You will be provided with a 20% discount that you can use to register for a new course.
What happens if I do not pass my CIP1 theory CBT exam?
Students who are unsuccessful on the theory CBT exam you can register with Pearson VUE to resit the exam at any time. Appointments are based on Pearson VUE scheduling. The cost for this is $285 inc. GST paid directly to Pearson VUE.
They must wait 30 days for a retake of the exam. If the second attempt is failed, you must wait 120 days after the second attempt. If all three attempts are failed, they must completely start over with a full course registration.
How do I find my CIP1 results?
All AMPP students will have access to their results, details and certification through My Certification Portal –AMPP. Results should be available around a month from completion.
Can I do CIP1 and CIP2 back-to-back courses?
Yes, you can do CIP Level 1 and Level 2 back-to-back training courses. However, we recommend you review all course materials prior, there is a lot of content to cover in this time. You must have at least attended CIP1 and have 2 years verifiable coatings related work experience in order to attend CIP2.
We often run Level 1 and Level 2 back-to-back in the same location.

What are the Course Class and Exam Time Schedules?
Coating Inspector Program Level 1 is a 6-day course.
The first day always starts on a Monday and finishes on a Saturday for the course duration.
From Monday to Friday, the course starts at 8:00am to 5:30pm.
On Saturday is the exam day, which is shorter than the weekday course times above.
The exam is done in groups of 8 as there are 8 stations.
Each group session takes an approximately an hour.
- The first group they can be done by 10:30am.
- Depending on if the course is full, the last of the four groups they can be out as late as 4pm-4:30pm.
- You can put your name down for the group they want to be in during the course whenever you want, for whatever exam time session you would like.
