About The Competition
The RustyPics Competition is an Australasian Corrosion Association (ACA) initiative, proudly delivered by the Victorian Branch. After a five-year hiatus, RustyPics returns to celebrate the art, science, and occasional humour of corrosion through photography. Open to ACA members across Australia and New Zealand, the competition brings together a vibrant community of “rust-geeks” who share a passion for documenting corrosion in the built and natural environment.
From marine exposure and pipeline degradation to concrete deterioration, paint failure, and unexpected corrosion discoveries in everyday settings, RustyPics encourages participants to see the world through a corrosion-focused lens. It highlights both the technical realities and the unexpected beauty of deterioration processes, turning real-world observations into compelling visual stories.
More than just a photo competition, RustyPics fosters connection within the corrosion community by sharing experiences, sparking discussion, and encouraging technical awareness through imagery. It is an opportunity to showcase corrosion in all its forms—sometimes humorous, often insightful, and frequently surprisingly beautiful.
We look forward to seeing the unique perspectives and corrosion stories captured in this year’s long-awaited return of RustyPics from across Australasia.
How The Competition Works
Here are the categories to submit a photo under:
- Marine
- Pipeline
- Concrete
- Paint
- Other
Photo Submissions
Entries are open exclusively to current ACA members, so please ensure your membership is active before submitting.
Participants may submit one photograph per category, so choose your strongest and most compelling image for each entry.
The submission period will run from Thursday 25 June to Tuesday 21 July 2026.
Once submissions close, all entries will proceed to the judging and voting stages, where winners will be selected and celebrated.

Judging, Voting & Winner Selection
Following the close of submissions, entries will be assessed through a combination of popular vote and judging panel review. ACA members will be invited to vote online, with one vote permitted per category, so participants are encouraged to review all submissions carefully before selecting their favourites.
In parallel, a judging panel will determine the overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
Voting will run from 22 July to 4 August 2026, with winners announced at the Victorian Branch event on 5 August 2026.
Winners will receive ACA certificates and canvas prints of their winning photographs.
